Cleantech for Iberia Showcases Cleantech Leadership as Spain Joins the First Movers Coalition

September 17, 2025

Madrid, 8 September 2025 – Spain has officially joined the First Movers Coalition (FMC) of the World Economic Forum, a global alliance of governments and leading companies committed to creating early demand for breakthrough clean technologies in hard-to-abate sectors such as steel, cement, aviation, shipping, and carbon dioxide removals.

The milestone was announced during the event in Madrid, with Bianca Dragomir, Director of Cleantech for Iberia joining the Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Third Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Ecological Transition, Sara Aagesen Muñoz, the Minister of Economy Carlos Cuerpo, the Minister of Industry Jordi Hereu, the Minister of Health Monica García, and the World Economic Forum President Børge Brende.

Cleantech for Iberia representing the voice of the cleantech ecosystem

Representing the Iberian cleantech ecosystem, Bianca Dragomir stressed how Spain is actively changing the cleantech map for a clean, competitive economy. The priority now is scaling up cleantech solutions through patient and catalytic capital, public guarantees and blended finance to multiply investment, and, above all, by activating demand for emerging technologies within existing industries.

Our Director also showcased the unique contribution of Cleantech for Iberia, which brings together a vibrant ecosystem of clean technology innovators, specialised investors, financial partners, and philanthropic organisations, all working to transform technology into clean industries, jobs, and the factories of the future.

Bianca emphasised that Spain’s adhesion to the First Movers Coalition marks a turning point: a platform where governments, industry, and investors can work together to seize the triple opportunity of cleantech: decarbonisation, competitiveness, and energy security.

Why this matters?

Spain’s decision to join the First Movers Coalition sends a powerful signal to investors and innovators across Europe. It reinforces Spain’s role as a frontrunner in the clean industrial transition and strengthens the bridge between policy ambition, corporate leadership and technological innovation.
